Although when this gas is taken in moderate quantities, it produces a feeling of happiness for an individual. But if taken in large quantities, it might lead to a damaged nervous system and might even lead to a heart attack, resulting in the death of an individual. In more advanced countries like the United Kingdom and the United States of America, this gas is often used as a substitute for drugs for getting high. The governments of these countries are considering banning the commercial sale of nitrous oxide due to its side effects on the human body.
Apart from happiness, laughing gas is also known to provide feelings of hallucination, disorientation, dizziness and even anxiety in some individuals. The gas is odorless and colorless in form and is a little sweet in taste. It is available in small cylinders in some markets and often used after filling it in air balloons and then being inhaled through the balloon. This is due to the fact that if we puncture the cylinder and inhale the gas directly, then it might get frozen due to a sudden change in pressure leading to frost bites in human skin.
It is also not advisable to inhale the gas if you are suffering from cold because there is always a danger of damaging your eardrums after inhaling the gas. Whatever the reason may be, utmost care should be taken while dealing with dangerous substances like nitrous oxide and it should never be tried at home by anyone without medical supervision.
